Fifth Postgraduate Orthopaedics FRCS (Tr & Orth) UK Revision Course 2018

The fifth Postgraduate Orthopaedic 6-day FRCS (Tr&Orth) revision course was held at Newcastle Civic Centre and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Gateshead in January 2018. We changed the venue of the lectures/vivas to Newcastle Civic Centre. Candidate numbers had grown and unfortunately although the Sandyford building had been a good venue the previous year with fire regulations it became a too small to cope with the increase in candidate numbers. The civic centre is well used to hosting medical conferences with excellent IT support system in place. The seating arrangement in the chamber was very comfortable for candidates which was especially important give the length of the day. The venue change was universally well received.

Postgraduate Orthopaedics International FRCS (Tr&Orth) Revision Course held at Rashid Hospital, Dubai, United Arab Emirates Oct 2017.

This was our first International Course. It was designed to help candidates prepare for the International FRCS(Tr&Orth) course in Qatar November 2017. We had around 35 candidates registered for the course with a mixed faculty from both local and from the UK. The quality matched our flag ship Newcastle course.

Fourth Postgraduate Orthopaedics FRCS (Tr & Orth) UK Revision Course 2017

The fourth Postgraduate  Orthopaedic 6-day FRCS (Tr&Orth) revision course was held at Northumbria University and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Gateshead in January. We had to change the venue of the lectures/vivas at Northumbria University.Candidate numbers had grown and although the grand hall looks fabulous with fire regulations it became too small to cope with the increased numbers of candidates wishing to attend the course. In addition serving food for lunch was becoming difficult in a fairly confined space. The new venue was more modern and functional and allowed us the opportunity to keep catering separate from the lectures. The venue change was universally well received especially for the viva day.

Third Postgraduate Orthopaedics FRCS (Tr & Orth) UK Revision Course

The lecture programme was very intense with early starts at 7am and late finishes at 9pm.We had responded to previous candidate feedback from the last 2 years requesting a full on intensive revision course . Informal feedback with some candidates suggested a slight tweaking of the balance back was needed. Whilst realising that candidates want to cram in as much info as possible next year a start at 7.30am and finish at 8pm may allow the audience to more fully engage in the lecture programme without losing focus and attention. The course was assessed by the RCSEng quality assurance and accreditation team and the RCSEng Council approved accreditation for 3 years.
