He is an active member of several orthopaedic associations and societies including the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), British Hip Society (BHS) and British trauma society (BTS).He is fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Edinburgh and Glasgow
He has a strong commitment to teaching, training and education. He is a member of the regional STC panel; fully accredited ST3+trainer; regularly attends the ARCP process for ST3+ trainees and is a regular interviewer for the national appointments process at ST3 level.
He is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators and has a Masters degree in Medical Education
He has been an ATLS instructor for 8 years and regularly instruct on various courses both at a local and regional setting. He was Foundation Tutor for Foundation Doctors at his local hospital from August 2010 to August 2013.
He is the main editor and author for the FRCS (Tr&Orth) related exam books. He runs an annual 6 day intensive FRCS (Tr&Orth) revision course at Northumbria University and QEH Gateshead.
He is interested in orthopaedic biomechanical research and has worked in conjunction with Northumbria University on various research projects in the last few years including gait analysis following hip replacement surgery.
He is visiting professor at Northumbria University acting as an interface between the academic roles Northumbria University provides and his own clinical oriented background that provides a practical focus for research
